Pre-production
NegotiatedCreative Director
- Being creative is at the heart of everything I do.
- Whether it's writing a screenplay, thinking up an ad campaign for a product, or taking your concepts and bringing them to fruition, creativity is the core that makes it all possible.
- I can handle all levels of production and can assemble a trusted team to refine concepts while keeping the overall vision intact.
- If you have a product you want to market, or an idea you want to bring to life on the screen, please contact me for more information.
NegotiatedScreenplay Writer
- Writing is an art form. Creating stories? That's magic!
- If you have an idea for a movie, but don't know how to turn it into a screenplay, I'm here to help.
- If you are afraid to commit your most secretive emotions to paper then writing a screenplay is not for you. Fear not however, because that's where I come in!
- I can draw from a wide variety of experiences in my life, but most importantly, I write from the heart.
- Besides the creative side of writing, I am also proficient in the technical structures required of a screenplay. There won't be any grammatical or spelling mistakes in anything I write! The importance of this shouldn't be understated in a field where producers read hundreds of screenplays a week and don't have time for mistakes.
¥30,000/dayScreenplay Consultant
- So, you've written a screenplay and beaten me at my own game! Hats off to you!
- I'll let you in on a secret then - you now need a fresh set of eyes on it to really make it shine.
- I have a deep understanding of both the technical and emotional aspects of screenplay writing and approach a screenplay from the point of view of a working director.
- As such I can offer a range of insights that may not be readily apparent if you are purely a writer by profession.
- I will meet with you (be it online or offline) and go through your screenplay with a fine-toothed comb to make sure it is perfect in every way, from grammar and formatting, to where it may be lacking from a storytelling perspective.
¥40,000/dayProduction Liaison
- If you are looking to shoot in beautiful Japan, but don't know where to start, worry no more!
- I have over four years' experience in liaising with international productions at the highest levels.
- I can source equipment, locations, multi-lingual staff and anything else you may need.
- All personnel and materiel is at cost plus my fee as listed. I don't add any additional percentage to prices.
NegotiatedStock Footage
- When you need the perfect shot of Japan, but don't want to incur the expense of flying here, let me know!
- I shoot using the Epic 5K digital cinema camera, so you will have maximum latitude (up to 18 stops using dual track HDRx) and RAW flexibility in post.
- I also provide a host of information with each plate so your CGI team has all the relevant metadata needed to seamlessly composite the shot with your foreground elements.
- Unlike a stock library, you specify precisely what shot you want and I go out and shoot it for you, anywhere in Japan (or worldwide for that matter, if you love my work and style!).
¥25,000/dayThird Party Equipment Rental for Overseas Clients
- It is generally very difficult to come here from overseas and rent local equipment because Japanese rental companies only deal with other Japanese companies.
- As a registered and established Japanese company, Visceral Psyche can act as a rental proxy for you, organizing equipment and pickup/return times and going along with you to sign it out and back in.
- To use this service you will need to show your passport and one other form of ID (such as a driver's license or credit card), as well as production insurance from your originating country covering overseas equipment rental.
Production
NegotiatedDirector
- My primary career focus is that of film director. I have a strong mix of ambition and perseverance and have my sights set firmly on Hollywood. Your film will be the beneficiary of that tenacity.
- As a director, I am all about telling stories through a concise vision and taking the audience on an emotional journey. When I tackle a story, it's personal, so I give it everything I've got. I expect nothing less from my cast and crew and you should expect nothing less from me.
- I have a wide array of skills in filmmaking that all serve to enhance my directing abilities. As a cinematographer, I know what it means to create images that serve the story. As a sound recordist and designer, I make sure not to neglect the other 50% of the movie experience.
- Most importantly, I have a deep understanding of story structure and how to bring performances to the screen through working with actors to establish characters and believability.
- The director's job encompasses many facets, but at the end of the day what drives me to perform my absolute best is that it is MY NAME up there in the credits, so nothing less than perfection is the goal. After all, my reputation depends on it!
¥70,000/dayCinematographer
- I have been a cinematographer for several years now, shooting mostly with the Red One digital cinema camera and now with the Red Epic camera.
- As a cinematographer I am involved in the narrative process from the pre-production phase alongside the director, establishing shot selection for narrative intent through storyboarding and location scouting as well as mood, tone and lighting. This includes color grading tests to establish the overall look of the film.
- In the production phase I communicate closely with the director and gaffer to light the production for dramatic effect as well as operating the camera as necessary.
- In post-production I am deeply involved in setting the final color grade of the film to enhance the visual mood and unify the feel of the images across the length of the finished product, be it a film, commercial or music video.
¥40,000/dayCamera Operator
- I am a skilled camera operator, having shot extensively with the Red One digital cinema camera as well as the new Red Epic and Arri Alexa cameras, along with smaller cameras from Canon, Sony and Panasonic.
- I am very experienced with all positions in a camera team and have operated on multiple productions as the main camera operator.
- I am also a skilled cinematographer. What's the difference, you ask? A cameraman's responsibility is to operate the camera and frame the shots. A cinematographer has a much greater scope for influencing the visuals of the production, such as lighting choices, storyboarding etc.
- If you are unsure about which role you would like me to fill, please contact me and I can help you decide based on your production's individual requirements.
¥40,000/dayFocus Puller/1st AC
- I work primarily with the Red Epic camera, the previous generation Red One MX and the Arri Alexa.
- I am experienced in pulling focus on Super35 sized sensors using PL lenses as well as Canon EF mount lenses (electronically controlled through a remote follow focus unit).
- I am very experienced with cinema cameras and their associated equipment including tripods, camera accessories, dollies, monitoring systems and much more.
¥40,000/dayStills Photographer
- My passion for beautiful images began with photography before I moved into the motion cinematography world.
- My goal with photography is to make every image tell a story. I prefer to find interesting locations for my photos rather than shoot in a studio.
- I have shot fashion, weddings, corporate and behind-the-scenes photography for movie sets, providing a unique aesthetic that helps the images stand out from the crowd.
- I have also worked with many famous people and am comfortable and professional in high pressure environments.
- You can see a portfolio of my work here.
¥40,000/dayData Wrangler/DIT
- I have many years of experience in handling both celluloid film and digital footage.
- I have supported numerous productions as the Digital Imaging Technician and Data Wrangler on set, providing a secure chain of custody and safe backups of the most important part of production - the visual data.
- I create multiple backups as part of the process and if you are coming from overseas, I maintain a full digital copy of the data until such time as you are safely back home and have transferred the data to your own systems.
- I also maintain security and confidentiality to ensure that the data does not fall into the wrong hands.
¥40,000/daySound Recordist
- I have always had a passion for high quality sound.
- I studied sound recording in film school and have been the sound recordist on numerous productions.
- I also have a firm understanding of the symbiotic relationship between the sound recordist and the camera team, as I am skilled in both jobs.
- As a sound designer and mixer I also know what is required at the acquisition stage to give the post-production team the best possible assets to work with.
Post-production
¥40,000/dayColorist
- Cinema is a visual art form, so it is critical that it look its best in an ever more crowded field. That's where color grading comes in.
- Good color grading not only enhances the feel and emotional flow of a film, it unifies it and allows it to punch above its weight.
- I am highly skilled at taking raw images, both motion and still, and making them look their best (see my demo reel for some examples).
- If you want the teal and orange cookie cutter "look", buy a plugin. If you want actual creative color grading that sets your film apart, give me a call :)
¥40,000/dayEditor
- Common wisdom holds that a movie is made three times - once when writing it, once when shooting it and once when editing it.
- It follows therefore that the editing process is the final chance you get to refine the movie into the product the audience will ultimately judge, so don't let the hard work of writing and shooting go to waste with lackluster editing!
- Good editing is all about finding the emotional core of a story and honing it down to a razor sharp point. It's about rhythm and flow. It is NOT about making a movie fit a predetermined length, or keeping in shots or scenes because they might look good, or cost a lot of money to shoot. If it doesn't serve the story, cut it out.
- I learned to edit using 16mm film, so when I make a cut I am very conscious of why I am selecting that particular frame to cut on; something that is all too often not understood by editors who have only ever used NLEs in the digital domain.
- As a fresh set of eyes I am your last and best defense against what might otherwise end up as a mediocre film (which no one wants after expending all that effort making it in the first place!).
- It is IMPORTANT to have that fresh perspective! If you are the director AND the editor, you need to strongly think about the harm you might be doing to your film....
¥40,000/daySound Designer/Mixer
- Sound is 50% of a movie - don't neglect it! Your audience may not notice when it's good, but they will definitely notice when it's bad!
- Before I became a director and cinematographer I was a sound designer and mixer.
- I can create immersive soundscapes and refine your production audio to the level expected of a professional production.
¥40,000/dayDVD/Blu-ray menu authoring & case artwork
- Present your film in a professional way with unified, elegant case artwork and menus that function the way people expect a modern DVD or Blu-ray to function.
- Add special features, commentary tracks, subtitles and much more to give your audience a richer experience of your masterpiece.
- As a photographer and designer I can also create the raw artwork materials.
